Randy on the DL: Price to Miss Work After Bad Leg Break

WCVB has announced that morning anchor and Boston news stalwart Randy Price will be taking an as-yet unspecified period of medical leave, having broken his leg in three places after stumbling on rocks at a beach near his Maine home. Unfortunately, with the location being quite remote, it took 45 minutes before anyone was able to come to his aid.

Dozens of get-well messages have already been left on Channel 5′s Facebook page, and Randy has assured viewers that he’ll be back on-the-air as soon as possible.

As a point of personal privilege, it bears mentioning that Randy has been a good friend to this site for nearly a decade, so if you’d like to leave a message of support, please feel free to do so in the comments area of this post, and we’ll make sure he sees all of them.

ADMIN NOTICE: Comments on btvn Posts

Hi Everyone!

Max here, filling in for Stephen, who I’m sorry to say has suffered a family bereavement (so I’ll be helping out for a few days if there’s any breaking news). We’ve recently suffered a spam attack, resulting in over 4,500 comments waiting for Stephen to approve, 99.999% of them pure rubbish. With his permission, I’ve bulk-deleted all of them.

However, there’s a small chance some legit posts never ended up making it onto the site, so if you’ve made a comment in the last week or so and don’t see it anywhere, then please feel free to re-post it.

UPDATE (3/29):  As of today, we’ve added CAPTCHA technology, which will require you to enter a short sequence of numbers and letters after you post in order to verify you’re human. At 80 spam posts an hour, regretably it was something we had to do.:

BTVN 4.0 STARTS THIS WEEK: SO PLEASE WELCOME STEPHEN AND JOEY!

Hello All,

The time has come for me to say goodbye.

As of Monday, January 10th, I’ll be handing BTVN over to our new Managing Editor, Stephen; you’ll see him on our boards under stephenbtvn. Also joining the team will be Stephen’s friend Joey (board handle: outsideofboston), who will act as News Editor and Moderator of the newly-formatted site, which they’ll be bringing to you very soon. I will now be posting as just another member under MaxBTVN, except under emergencies if someone posts something so horrific that we could be sued or arrested for it, in which case you might see the BTVNadmin name pop up again on the boards. Stephen has very graciously offered me an informal position as a visiting contributor, but how (or even whether) that will take shape, I cannot yet officially say.

It’s been my immense pleasure and privilege to share these last eight years of Boston TV News with you, and I look forward to continuing to be a member of the BTVN community.

Please make Stephen and Joey feel welcome, and most importantly, please do what you can to help them make the new incarnation of the site a tremendous success!

It’s been fun – thanks,

Max

Welcome to the All-New BTVN!

Hi, I’m Max Preston, and as you might have guessed, that’s my picture over there! Anyway, welcome to the All-New BTVN.net!

My colleague Rob Mignogna has asked me to throw together our new look, and as you might imagine, it’s something of a work-in-progress. The board is now a separate entity, but there’s a big fat link on the front page which will always be available, and can be found at the easy new address of boards.btvn.net

We also have a new “Clips, etc” area, where the other staff and I will post the curios we come across on YouTube, plus any multimedia stuff that might relate to breaking news.

There’s also a new contact form where you can submit any tips, comments or questions you may have, which will be sent to our easy-to-remember new e-mail address: admin@btvn.net

Finally, as you may know, I spend most of my time in the UK these days, and we’re still a man down on staff, something which will be all the more essential to resolve in the months to come. If you’d like to be involved (it’s pretty damn cool!), then our only requirements are that you’re 16 or over and have no potential conflict of interest with any of the local stations – just drop a note in the contact box telling us why you’d like to do it, and we’ll get back to you ASAP.

Thanks for staying with BTVN – now going strong for nearly eight years – and please enjoy our rather lovely new look!
