‘BZ Names New ND

Pittsburgh’s Verrilli Steps In at 4

In an e-mail to BTVN late last Wednesday, WBZ/WSBK announced that John Verrilli will succeed Jeff Kiernan as the duopoly’s News Director.

Verrilli previously held the same position at the CBS dupoply in Pittsburgh; he takes up his new assignment on February 2nd.

Discuss this here!

Welcome to the All-New BTVN!

Hi, I’m Max Preston, and as you might have guessed, that’s my picture over there! Anyway, welcome to the All-New BTVN.net!

My colleague Rob Mignogna has asked me to throw together our new look, and as you might imagine, it’s something of a work-in-progress. The board is now a separate entity, but there’s a big fat link on the front page which will always be available, and can be found at the easy new address of boards.btvn.net

We also have a new “Clips, etc” area, where the other staff and I will post the curios we come across on YouTube, plus any multimedia stuff that might relate to breaking news.

There’s also a new contact form where you can submit any tips, comments or questions you may have, which will be sent to our easy-to-remember new e-mail address: admin@btvn.net

Finally, as you may know, I spend most of my time in the UK these days, and we’re still a man down on staff, something which will be all the more essential to resolve in the months to come. If you’d like to be involved (it’s pretty damn cool!), then our only requirements are that you’re 16 or over and have no potential conflict of interest with any of the local stations – just drop a note in the contact box telling us why you’d like to do it, and we’ll get back to you ASAP.

Thanks for staying with BTVN – now going strong for nearly eight years – and please enjoy our rather lovely new look!

1030 Sports Reporter Out

Tom Cuddy, veteran sports reporter at WBZ-AM/1030, has been let go from the station amidst growing cutbacks by the CBS, the media conglomerate that owns the station along with WBZ-TV/Channel 4 and WSBK-TV/Channel 38.  The Boston Globe is also reporting that Cuddy may not be the only personality that was laid off yesterday.

New Anchor Team at 10pm

Beginning Monday, Kim Khazei will replace Matt Lorch on 7 News at 10.  Matt Lorch will continue to anchor at 4, 4:30, and 5:30 on Channel 7.  The Boston Globe was the first to report the story yesterday.  7 and 56 management hope that the move will boost viewership to the perennial 2nd place finisher at 10, considering that the target demographic of the CW network is young women.
